Libje is a 24mtr x 4.3m (80’x 14′) Dutch Steilsteven barge (‘Straight Stem’) built in 1930 of riveted steel. She originally carried peat and then sand and gravel. She is an unusual design as she uses the older Steilsteven style hull but with the later ‘Luxemotor ‘ style aft cabin. This would have been the original owners quarters when she was working.

To come in 2017  This winter we will be making several changes to Libje. The side cabin will be going to make more space for the saloon.  We will be replacing the existing fixed seating with a comfy sofa and armchair.  This will allow us to use the old side cabin as a separate dining area. Guests will have the sole use of the barge and the new larger comfier areas will offer a much more luxurious experience for 2.

Keep in touch. We know that communications are important to many guests so we can offer Wi-Fi and network connection to either 3G, GPRS/EDGE and even our satellite broadband connections.

The interior features many original works of art and woodcarvings. Libje is also decorated to give a light and airy atmosphere.

The hull, aft accommodation and teak wheelhouse are original, whilst all the guest accommodation area has been completely rebuilt. We have used a blend of the latest technology and traditional hardwood joinery that creates a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

Libje features full oil fired central heating throughout, aircon as well as a wood stove for cosy late autumn evenings.

Libje has a large en-suite guest cabin with full central heating. The guest bathroom has a full sized shower, vanity unit with hairdryer and push button electrically operated toilet. The Guest cabin also has full headroom. The cabin has opening windows as well as a skylight fitted with blinds. There is a separate guest entrance allowing easy access to both the saloon and guest cabins.

We have concentrated on giving Libje a light and airy feel, and most visitors immediately comment on just how spacious and bright the interior is.
We have full headroom throughout the passenger areas and our decision to only take two guests in an en-suite cabin means that you have
plenty of space. Our outdoor seating right across the front of the ship gives the perfect vantage point to soak up the scenery at the quietest point on the ship.

Sitting here watching the views gently wrapping around you as we cruise the waterways and you sip a glass of wine just has to be experienced. There is a full width bimini sunshade that provides shade for the forward seating area.

In the event of poorer weather, guests are welcome in the wheelhouse and there is seating right across the rear. The entire upper deck is also available for guests use.

For guests who are thinking of buying a barge, we are happy to explain the full process, describe our experiences, point out the pitfalls and
give practical advice on all aspects of barge ownership. We have also kept a daily diary and photo log of the rebuild and our journeys
through Europe. If however you just want to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labours; step aboard!
